Common Misconceptions about anime that annoy me >_>

Unfortunately, many Americans who are unfamiliar with anime believe many untrue statements, therefore out casting some people who enjoy it.

Untrue fact #1:
All anime is made to arouse and contains explicit fan-service. SO NOT TRUE. Yes, there are genres made specifically for that, but MOST animes are not like that! There is no particular age group for anime itself. It's the series that are intended for different ages. There are many kid and family appropriate series, such as Shugo Chara!

Untrue fact #2:
Anime usually appeals to only "strange" or "weird" people, and the stories lack depth. Three things people don't understand are
1) Japan has a different culture than we do. Some of the elements in the plot lines may seem slightly different, but same goes for us to them. As for plots lacking detail, completely off. Of course from series to series it's different, but most include a series of unique characters and are put into intriguing situations. Anime is also a very successful business industry, so someone must be buying if companies are making money.

2) Before being translated into English, some anime series are dubbed and altered. This means that for whatever reason, the company producing the show in America chooses to cut parts out and change some of the script. One of the companies responsible and blamed for doing a terrible job of dubbing is 4Kids Entertainment

3) People saying such things don't take the time to thoroughly look through a couple of series before making their opinion.

More to come soon ^o^

Starting it all up with a brief intro ^o^

Coming here you probably already know what anime is o.o:;; but if not, here  is a basic description of what it is. To put it simply, anime is Japanese cartoons. But keep in mind, they're nothing like the typical American Saturday-morning cartoons. Anime is distinct from American cartoons in their depth of characterization and plot (among other things). For the most part, the quality of animation in anime far surpasses that of American cartoons. Anime spans many genres, from silly romantic comedies (Marmalade Boy) to fantasy adventures (Vision of Escaflowne and Fushigi Yuugi), high-tech science fiction (Macross Plus), and much more. The most distinctive quality of anime is the subject manner: much of anime deals with "real-life" topics that American cartoons wouldn't touch with a 30-foot pole.
